  • I found the course very insightful and quite liberating.

  • It lets me enter into far more honest and richer relationships, to say what I think, carry through what I intend, and to give of myself open-heartedly.

  • Love my classes – best time of the week and the benefits from it is unlimited!

  • Thank you – the teaching and practices are most helpful and bring joy to me.

  • Learned a whole new way of thinking.
Really enjoyed this first term and wish this feeling could last forever.

Practical Philosophy for Daily Living

Overview      |      Introductory Module     |      Further Modules

This ten week course looks at profound principles that lead to a new outlook, and suggests simple steps towards living a better, more meaningful and serene life. Below is an outline of what will be discussed during the Introductory Course.

  1. Wisdom within. We consider why we study philosophy, the nature of wisdom and what it means to be wise.
  2. Know Thyself. Self-discovery; Self-knowledge; The question – Who or what am I? The potential within. How to realise that potential.
  3. Being awake. Different levels of awareness. What is our usual state of awareness? Are there greater levels of awareness? If so, how may we gain access to them?
  4. Living in the present moment. What is the potential of the present moment? We will consider the power of attention to connect with the present moment.
  5. Living justly. The nature of justice and injustice. What does it mean to live justly? What are the obstacles to living justly. What does Plato have to say on this subject.
  6. The three-fold energy of nature. How to understand and make the best use of these energies. How can we increase the energy available to us?
  7. The light of reason. The sovereign power of the human being. The nature of reason and its application. Making better decisions through the use of reason. The three main components of a human being.
  8. The power of beauty. What is the nature of beauty? What is its purpose? Where does it come from?
  9. Unity in Diversity. How to see unity in diversity, the common thread running through life.
  10. The Desire for Truth. How does this innate desire for truth show itself? How can we come to the truth of any situation?
