It has been stated by ancient wisdom that
"The proof of a creative and conscious work is this alone, to melt the hearts of those who can not do it themselves or who cannot find any other source".
The arts and crafts group was formed in the School of Practical Philosophy in order to discover, in practice, the process of creation afresh.
Practical skills are developed through specific practices which serve to remove limitations and unlock the greater potential of the student.
The effect of these practices, performed always in the light of the teaching, is greater attention, stillness, accuracy and perception.
As an example: A practical principle which guides the work is
"paint what you see".
This does not only embrace the ordinary vision but also the inspirational imagination which is most important to creative work.
Art has the capacity to touch and unite the heart of the onlooker, the object and the artist.
"This is how craft is turned into art, because it is enlivened and enriched by a message from the Absolute and a smile from the Absolute."
(Sri Shantananda Saraswati)
