The School of Practical Philosophy

The School of Practical Philosophy was founded by Mr Leon MacLaren, whose work on Economics and Law led him to seek the natural laws by which men and society are governed. This search led in turn to the study of the Philosophy which he quickly realized to be the master study from which all other study could flow. Since 1955 Philosophy has been the centre of the School's work.

In 1965 Leon Maclaren met His Holiness Shri Shantananda Saraswati, Shankaracharya of the North in India, and this established the direct connection of the School with a man of true wisdom. With this introduction and through the practice of meditation the School took the vital step from study to deep practice. Leon Maclaren died on the 24th June 1994 but his work is continued by Mr Donald Lambie under the guidance and authority of Shri Vasudevananda Saraswati, successor to the late Shri Shantananda Saraswati.

Currently there are schools in approximately 15 countries throughout the world. The School of Practical Philosophy is also known as the School of Economic Science and the School of Philosophy. Although the names may vary the aims, objectives and teaching is identical in all cases.

The Essence of the School

The essential aim of the School of Practical Philosophy is to be a centre of spiritual and practical knowledge which can help people realize their true nature and which can be of real service to humanity. Love of humanity and its expression in creation is its purpose.
